INTRODUCTION TO THE COURSE

Production Engineering plays a critical role in the lifecycle of an oil or gas well—from initial drilling (spud) to final abandonment. As a multidisciplinary function, it bridges the gap between subsurface operations and surface facilities to ensure wells are safely designed, constructed, operated, and maintained for optimal performance and maximum business value.

Often referred to as Well Doctors, Production Engineers or Technologists are responsible not only for the well but also for the entire production system—spanning from the reservoir to surface facilities and export. Over time, Production Engineering has become central to Well, Reservoir and Facility Management (WRFM) and overall production optimization strategies.

This Production Engineering training course provides a comprehensive foundation in Production Engineering principles and practices. It combines essential theory with practical exercises, group discussions, and problem-solving sessions. Participants will explore key technical domains including well performance analysis, completion design, artificial lift systems, stimulation, sand control, and WRFM integration. By the end of the training course, delegates will be equipped to apply production engineering tools and techniques effectively in the field.

This Production Engineering training course will highlight:

  • The strategic role of Production Engineering in upstream operations
  • Core components and concepts of the Production Engineering discipline
  • Practical applications across well design, completion, and production systems
  • Techniques to enhance oil and gas production and maximize recovery
  • Real-world challenges in well performance and WRFM
